"I would recommend it to any outdoor enthusiast to give it a visit!

Over all the hospitality and beauty of Woodcliffe is more than worth the journey from any part of the country!"

What a privilege … a couple of days in untouched nature…Special.

Thanks for your warm welcome and creating such a cosy cottage Phyll. We walked, fished and birded. We saw a few little ones.

Next time we would like to explore the caves or return for the wild flowers. Loved the passing traffic : donkeys, children, mamas, a gent on a donkey in a hurry and an old truck picking its way along.

Beautiful warm weather and then a howling wind last night…but still found an excuse to light a fire or two.

Our weekend at Woodcliffe was a perfect way to end our holiday. We walked to the Picnic Forest with 4 small children. Lovely view and easy to do, although Kayleigh was very disappointed that the trees were not made of chocolate. Thanks for the lovely stay.

One night was not nearly enough;

We are sad to be leaving this silence and beauty behind. We will also miss our morning cow visitors. Spaces like this deserve poetry:

“Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of rain

Are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and deep trees,

the mountains and rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –

over and over announcing your place in the family of things.”

Majestic mountain on my stoep

After a long and telling drive - the most wonderful place to arrive. Friendly reception and general assistance by the owner . Very nice and comfortable cottage - fully equipped. We just sat at the braai area and stare at the beauty of creation - the huge mountain and a flowing river 100m away. Three comfortable rooms, clean and fully equipped. No TV - but in this environment a great not to have!! Road not in a great condition after some rain - fortunately speed was not of the essence :)

Ideal getaway from everything

We would highly recommend Woodcliffe... Most especially the Cottage which is just awesome. If you are looking to escape for a while to a nice remote, beautiful setting, then this place is for you. The cottage is relatively basic, but well equipped and has a great fireplace inside for cooler days and evenings and braai outside. It's very private and has fantastic walking or mountain bike trails around the area. Our host was very helpful . Was sad to leave and already making plans to return.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed

Woodcliffe is a very special place. Located at the foot of a staggering valley in the Eastern Cape Drakensberg, it is well off the beaten path but definitely worth the journey. We were a group of 10, with three kids, and everyone had a fantastic time. Fly fishing is a big attraction here, but we were more than happy swimming in the rivers, splashing in the mountain pools, stargazing, jumping on the trampoline, watching the sheep get driven into their pen, or relaxing in the beautiful garden under the shade of an enormous tree. And the hike we did (Yellow Route) must be one of the best day hikes in South Africa. It's well marked with two perfect mountain pools for swimming and great views of the High Berg - just bear in mind that the hectic uphill climb to the top of the Little Berg is a bit bruising.

In terms of accommodation, we stayed in the main farmhouse which is large and comfortable. The bathrooms could use a refresh but who cares when the surroundings are this lovely? A couple of us also stayed in the adjacent en-suite garden cottage, which was newer and rather romantic. The three bedroom cottage further up the valley is also available and offers incredible views. If you need to be connected, the main farmhouse offers free wifi, but the cellphone reception is spotty (MTN only at this stage). Our hosts were wonderful and very helpful. The owners know their farm well and are happy to share their knowledge. All in all, this working farm is a charming spot set in unbelievable scenery. When it was time to leave, I felt a genuine lump in my throat. Can't wait to get back...

Wonderful location, great hiking, and sweet garden flat with wonderful view

We spent three nights in the garden flat, and took full advantage of the well-marked hiking trails. Such unspoilt scenery, and so green! Our host was very welcoming and helpful , and the flat was charmingly shabby chic. We hope to go back sometime.

Absolutely peaceful spot hidden in a beautiful part of the Drakensberg.

This was our first visit to Woodcliffe and I can happily say it won't be our last. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by our hosts and shown to the Garden Cottage, which was pristine and comfortable. The accommodation is simple but exceptionally clean and cozy.

If I had to pick one thing to highlight, it would be the scenery. Waking up and being able to stare at beautiful mountains that seem to go on forever is really special. The hiking is great and there are various routes to fit everyone's ability. Don't pass up the chance to hike up to the caves and maybe even spend the night. There are various spots along the river flowing out of the mountains, to swim and relax. Overall, I would recommend Woodcliffe to anyone that enjoys the outdoors or is looking for a quite place to recharge.
