For slack packers we have number of circular day walks start and finish at Woodcliffe. Enjoy the comforts of the farmhouse and cottage each evening. For our guests who simply want a gentle stroll there are a number a flat easy walks to enjoy.
For the fit and adventurous hikers we have trails that can be walked in a variety of combinations lasting from one to five days.
- Day One: There is a 5km walk to Tok's Cave
- Day Two: Tok's Cave yellow circular walk of 13 km (without backpack).
- Day Three: Tok's Cave to Reed Park, a distance of 13 km, which includes an 800m ascent.
- Day Four: is 14 km and includes a 550m climb followed later by a 700m descent leading to Wide Valley.
- Day Five: The last day is relatively short - only 9 km, including mild up hills and a steep descent back to the farmhouse.
Although this five day hike is not an easy trail and certainly not recommended for beginners, it traverses an area of spectacular scenery. The utter remoteness of its mountains and valleys gives the hiker a truly off-the-beaten-track experience.
Tok's Cave: situated under a large, deep overhang and offering a magnificent view, this cave can be used for the first and second nights of the trail, or just for the second. With dung floors and three small rooms built at its closed end, it has firewood and water. There is also a long-drop toilet nearby. Up to 30 people can overnight here.
Reed Park mountain hut is situated on top of the high berg. This hut has running water close by and a long drop loo. Wide Valley mountain hut is serviced by the resident sheperd, who for a small tip will bring you fresh water and firewood on arrival. Wide Valley is approximately 200m from the river and we suggest our hikers fill up their water bottles on arrival at the hut, to ensure there is plenty of water for your first cup of tea! Take a swim/bath in the river underneath a crystal clear waterfall! |
